Organisational Resilience
Research Project

The objectives of the research project are:

The Research Project

  • This project will collect data from a variety of organisations, both in the private and public sectors, and calculate an index of the degree of organisational resilience for each respondent organisation.
  • Indexes will be calculated by sector, industry, location, size of organisation and length of existence of the organisations
  • Utilising the academic, practical experience and professional background of all parties we will then review the data and develop further the framework for organisational resilience.

Project objectives

  • To develop a 'resilience database' using Magus Indexer, to store the resilience index of many organisations. The data set will be able to be queried by country, size of organisation and industry sector.
  • The proposed database will be designed so that the most commonly occurring causes of lack of organisational resilience will also be identified, classifying these by probable magnitude of impact on the organisation.
  • To enable individual organisations to benchmark themselves against the norms in the database, and identify headline areas where management action is needed to raise their level of resilience.
  • Following the research project, specialist support will be available if required, using the Magus Indexer diagnostic tool. This stimulates high levels of employee engagement, and helps respondents with the search for causes, root cause and the development of innovative solutions

Reports

  • All participating organisations will receive a full report that goes beyond a simple index of resilience.
  • Reports will illustrate the key dimensions of the current state of resilience, and identify priorities for developmental action.
  • Because the input data is observational and not judgemental, reviewing the source data will reveal where key management practices and processes need to change.
  • Reports will be sent by email, and a sample report and Powerpoint presentation that will illustrate the type of feedback to be provided are available by clicking on the links below.

Participating organisations

  • These will employ at least 100 people.
  • A typical sample size will be at least 50 people.
  • For larger organisations, it may be appropriate to have more than one sample - for example, for different divisions where levels of organisational resilience may differ significantly.
  • May be from either public or private sector.
  • In all cases details for participation will be individually arranged.
  • All data provided will be confidential and not disclosed to anyone other than the principal of the participating organisation. Data protection rules will apply.

There is a Resilient Organisation group on LinkedIn.

  • All organisations participating in the research will be invited to join this closed group.
  • They will be able to share experiences and lessons acquired through the project, and through their own management initiatives in the pursuit of greater organisational resilience.
  • Membership of the group will provide access to support and advice, and materials relating to organisational resilience.
