Developing great organisations ...
... in a sea of change

Magus Scanner is an information-rich environment, but has a simple and easy-to-use interface to allow it to be navigated. A query builder enables graphical reports that report the current state by department and level. This enables differences to be displayed and issues and causes to be pinpointed.

Two diagnostic tools are provided to enable the facilitation of groups working through issues, to causes and actions. One targets the drivers of organisational coherence, which are a key output of Scanner. The other targets a special set of organisational permissions, selected because of their relationship with coherence.

The Magus Scanner window. Analysis of Magus Scanner data is a very simple process. The top part of the window allows the selection of either groups or individuals. The left hand panel enables the selection of reports for Outputs, Coherence, Permissions or Orientation. The main panel enables selection of either department or level as the basis of queries and reports. The bottom part of the main panel shows graphical views of the data, in this case as a radar chart, indicating in the example the level of potential problems in the company.

The Magus Scanner Coherence Report. This is the simple visual representation of one of the analyses performed by Magus Scanner. In this case, it is recording respondents' observations about the management action they think is being taken to tackle priority internal issues. There appears to be little agreement. (High levels of coherence are indicated by a small number of tall bars, showing high levels of agreement. Here there is little agreement.)

The Outputs Report. Here is a close up of the Outputs report shown in the Main Window image, this time displayed as a bar chart. Magus Scanner generates these outputs by processing the data collected via a web-based questionnaire, through one of the Scanner inference engines. The report depicts strategic issues indicated as a result of the analysis.

Magus Scanner Orientation report. Orientation reports are available for groups and individuals. These reports are similar except that the individual report contains more information. The lower half of the panel shows a summary of the types of responses selected by the respondent.

It also shows a Change Agent index. This indicates the degree to which this person is likely to be positive initiator and supporter of change processes. The upper half of the panel indicates the main areas of special interest for the individual in question. In the example, this person is likely to have a dominating interest in working to improve the effectiveness of the organisation. This information is used when putting together teams to drive changes to improve organisational coherence.

The Change Agent index is calculated for individuals. It is often useful to examine the Change Agent indexes for whole groups. In this display, the Change Agent indexes for a whole department are displayed in descending order. Those in green to the right of the centre point are positive indexes - those to the left in red are negative indexes. It may be considered that people with negative indexes are possibly going to be 'change blockers' rather than change agents - or at least, less enthusiastic about change!

Diagnostic Tools. Magus Scanner has two diagnostic tools. The first relates to the Issues, one page of which is shown here, and the second to the Permissions. These are designed to help facilitate groups of people working with the outputs of the various analyses. Each tool enables these groups to work from outputs, treated as symptoms, through causes to identify the action that will be required to develop higher levels of organisational coherence. All discussion points included in the tools are presented as questions rather than statements, to avoid the possibility of the process being seen as prescriptive.
